Ecological Excursion

The Ecological Field Trip on Tuesday, Sept. 28, will feature an exploration of the unique communities of eastern and coastal North Carolina.  Weather permitting, we'll visit a fire-dominated ecosystem, a pocosin, a bay lake, pitcher plant and venus fly trap habitats, and other coastal communities. Adventurous souls may wish to take a side trip to a large dredge spoil island to see the integrated mosquito management occurring there.  We plan to end the day at the NC Aquarium at Ft. Fisher (http://www.ncaquariums.com/fort-fisher) and the nearby Ft. Fisher State Recreation Area (http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/fofi/main.php) for a sumptuous seafood dinner before returning to Raleigh.
