The Group

MOTAX, The Working Group of European Mosquito Taxonomists, has been established to promote, support and co-ordinate work on the taxonomy, systematics and distribution of European Culicidae. It is concerned with mosquitoes from the viewpoints of their roles as vectors and nuisance insects, and species biodiversity. It also aims to support and promote co-operation between all scientists working on culicid taxonomic, systematics and distribution problems, and support the dissemination of knowledge on these topics to field personnel, government and health authorities and the public. Members of the Group must be scientists of good standing, active in the field of mosquito taxonomy and biology. The composition of the Group will be such as to represent as many countries and regions as possible. Members are elected for periods of three years and are eligible for re-election for a further three year period. Members elect a chairperson for a three year period. Members of the MOTAX Group should meet annually at the SOVE European Meeting to evaluate ongoing projects, to initiate new projects, to formalise policy and to actively promote research into mosquito taxonomy, systematics and distribution.
