England
Keith Snow was the former representative from the UK.
His interests are in the distribution of European mosquitoes and
is the Editor of the European Mosquito Bulletin. He is the author
of several books including "Mosquitoes" in the Naturalists' Handbooks
series (1990) which deals with UK species, "Mosquito Control in
Britain" (1995), co-authored with Clem Ramsdale, and "A provisional
atlas of the mosquitoes of Britain" (1998). In a recent article
in the journal "Biologist" (2000) he appraised the possibilities
for the reintroduction of malaria into Britain.
France
Francis Schaffner and Professor Brunhes have made the CD interactive
key for the Mosquitoes of Europe.
Germany
Matthias Beck has made a study concerning the mosquito fauna
of Luxembourg including and the breeding sites in the country. During
2001, 12 sites were sampled using CO2 traps, human landing and dipping
larvae techniques. During the sampling campaign, 15 species were
identified from the genera Anopheles, Culex and Culiseta.
This work was presented during the 3rd
International Congress of SOVE in Barcelona.
Greece
Anna Sammanidou reported the start of mosquito surveillance
in Marathon area, about 50 Km NE Athens. The study revealed a new
Greece record, Culex tritaeniorhynchus. Sporadic specimens
were collected during summer in coastal temporary marshes together
with Anopheles sacharovi, Culex modestus and others.
This has been published in the European
Mosquito Bulletin.
Italy
Guido Sabatinelli presented the MOS-KEY-TOS, software for interactice
identification of eggs, IV instars, pupae, adults with INTKEY, and
DELTA software data and files of MOS-KEY free of charge. The Italian
monograph of immature stages is in press.
Poland
Beata Biernat is working in "Mosquito fauna of the Gdansk agglomeration"
. Furthermore Elzbieta Wegner is currently working on: "Mosquito
fauna of Narew National Park (Eastern Poland)" and "Phenology of
mosquitoes in different regions of Poland".
Russia
Dr. Stegnii and collaborators: Ecological and genetical mechanisms
of adaptation of Anopheles maculipennis complex in natural
populations.
The publication of the book "Culex pipiens mosquitoes: taxonomy,
distribution, ecology, physiology, genetics, applied importance
and control" of E.B.Vinogradova. Pensoft, Sofia-Moscow, 2000, -250
pp.
It includes the chapter 4. Principles of Culex pipiens genetics
by Prof. Zakharov I.A.

Rumania
Gabriela
Nicolaiescu from the Cantacuzino Institute is working
in the mosquito distribution in her country. Romaina has 55 mosquito
species known. Several works are focused in the distribution of
An atroparvus, An. subalpinus and An. melanoon.
Spain
Carlos Aranda and Raul Escosa are finishing the study of the
Culicidae of Andorra. Roger Eritja and others are following the
invasion of Aedes albopictus in Spain. An article of the
first finding of this species has been recently published by Aranda
et. al. in the Medical and Veterinary Entomology. See:

Rosario Melero-Alcíbar from the Nacional Center of Microbiology,
Institute Carlos III of Madrid is, since 2007, next representative
for Spain.
Sweden
